The High Commissioner for Peace, Danilo Rueda, affirmed this Tuesday that in the construction of the path of Total Peace “we must persist and insist to solve the obstacles and I believe that we are going to achieve it.”
In the same sense, Rueda added that “peace is a right and we have the corresponding responsibility to affirm and build it in the midst of adversity.”
The Commissioner, who participated in the Colombia Hoy Radio news program, made the statements regarding the unilateral decision of the National Government to suspend the ceasefire with the Central General Staff (EMC-Farc) and reactivate operations against this illegal group in the departments from Meta, Guaviare, Caquetá and Putumayo.
In this regard, the official indicated that to advance in Total Peace, Colombia also has international cooperation channels that will promote the environment to promote the prompt installation of a table for talks with the EMC-FARC.
“There is an open disposition of the Government to start the talks table and that is the central message. If there is a provision from the EMC-FARC, we will start that negotiating table and there we will surely address the issues of the ceasefire and matters of hostilities, which are very important for the population”, Rueda highlighted.
In this regard, Camilo González Posso, Director of Indepaz, also participated in the news bulletin, who referred to the importance of not giving up in the construction of Total Peace.
“The fact that crises occur is part of this path, because the path of peace has many enemies. We must persist, there is no other alternative than the path of peace. This is a reality that cannot be diverted by the fact that obstacles occur in the middle of the process”, the analyst concluded.
