This year, June 14th is World Blood Donor Day. There are a few things to keep in mind before you donate blood. You can find out exactly what in the video.
In Germany, around 15,000 blood donations are needed every day for operations, serious illnesses or accident victims. On World Blood Donor Day on June 14, the Federal Center for Health Education is calling for people to donate blood or blood plasma nationwide. Here’s how donors can prepare:
You should definitely pay attention to these things when donating blood or plasma
Drink enough water beforehand! When you donate blood or plasma, your body loses fluid. Alcohol and cigarettes should be avoided before and after the donation. So that the body has enough energy, you should also eat enough on the day of the donation. A carbohydrate-rich meal that is not too fatty is ideal, because fatty foods have a negative effect on the blood plasma. You should take it easy for two days before and after donating blood. However, light physical exercise is allowed. If you have a cold, you should take a week off before donating blood. If you have a fever or are taking antibiotics, you even have to wait four weeks. After the donation you should drink enough and take care of your body. Donors have to wait about half an hour before they can drive independently again.
