The media reports that together with the Russian passport, Fazel also received 54% of the shares in the Krasnodar apple growing company “Alma Holding”, which is co-owned by the oligarch Gennady Timchenko, who is close to the dictator Vladimir Putin.
Fazel, 73, led the IIHF from 1994 to 2021. From 2006 to 2018, he was also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The former hockey referee has never hidden his sympathy for Russia, as well as its dictator Putin. Also, he has always been in apparently friendly relations with the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
In his homeland, Fazel is suspected of corruption. One of the accusations states that he received a bribe of 400,000 Swiss francs for the victory of a certain company in the competition for the sale of the rights to broadcast the world hockey championship. Fazel has denied all the accusations.
