Former Major League Soccer veteran Alejandro Moreno does not share Vincent Kompany’s opinion of Virgil van Dijk. Kompany called Van Dijk the best Premier League defender ever.
Moreno does not think that Van Dijk deserves that title already. “I think it’s a long-term issue,” he says ESPN. “If we’re really going to talk about whether Van Dijk is the best ever in Premier League history, I think you should be the best for more than two seasons.”
“Virgil van Dijk has only played eighty games for Liverpool, while John Terry and Rio Ferdinand (Chelsea and Manchester United, ed.) Have already played 400 and 300,” said Moreno. “Both have won multiple titles with their clubs. It’s not just about what they have achieved individually, but what their clubs have been doing over the years. You have to be the best at your position year after year and I don’t think Virgil van Dijk that already is. “
