After his country qualified for the FIFA World Cup Final, it follows It won 2-0 against MoroccoFrench President Emmanuel Macron congratulated the Moroccan national team for a “beautiful career” at the World Cup in Qatar.

“To our Moroccan friends (…) you have left an imprint in the history of football,” he said in a tweet attached to a photo of Moroccan player Ashraf Hakimi and Frenchman Killian Imbabé, via his official Twitter account.

Before the start of the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup in Doha, in which the French and Moroccan teams met, the French president stressed the need for “respect and friendship” between France and Morocco.

“Sport brings us together”

“We are all behind the French national team for the victory”, wrote Macron, who went to Doha on Wednesday to watch the match, adding: “Never forgetting that sport unites us above all in the respect and friendship between our two nations.”

France will be delighted after becoming the first team to reach the World Cup final twice in a row since Brazil did in 2002, and will now be thinking ahead of Argentina and captain Lionel Messi on Sunday to become the third team to retain the title after Brazil in 1962 and Italy in 1938.

The Morocco national team play another match against Croatia on Saturday to determine the third-placed team, after which they are expected to receive a hero’s welcome on their return to their homeland.
