“This is horrible. You still haven’t paid for the house you worked your whole life for and all of a sudden they tell you that you have to throw it away.” Rosa María Fernández, a resident of Cangas, explains the nightmare her family faces since a resolution of the Galician Agency for Urban Legalidade (APLU) seems to have turned the license with which they built their house in Nerga into a dead letter.
On June 16, it was 25 years since they began to live in the home that they gradually raised “a few, with all our effort, on a land owned by my husband’s family and with all the permits, both the construction license of the City Council and the financial review by the Official College of Architects ». On September 1 they should be celebrating paying the last installment of the mortgage that they had to face during all these years to build their home, but the shadow of the pickaxe has them in suspense for a year and a half, just like to two other families from the same parish.
“We never thought there could be any irregularity, but in mid-December 2019, we received a letter from the APLU informing us that the legality of our home was going to be investigated because, according to them, it occupies a space of easement and protection”, recalls Rosa María Fernández. They presented allegations but a second letter, received on June 23, reiterates the demolition resolution without having accepted their arguments.
“They told us again that the land must be returned to legality, we have argued again and we are waiting. Living like this is very difficult, we always act in accordance with the Law, ”insists this family, which has obtained neighborhood support.
The resolution of the urban agency says that they themselves have to take care of demolishing their home. “It is the only thing we have, we have nowhere to go or the 70,000 euros that the demolition costs,” explains Rosa. Hundreds of people clothed these families urged by the APLU and participated in a rally fifteen days ago to demand a solution in favor of those affected. The agency says that the real location of their houses does not fit the project, but they reiterate that “only what was covered by a municipal license was done.” The mayor met yesterday with the APLU to try to find alternatives. Victoria Portas indicated after the meeting that the possibilities would go through a possible demarcation or a delimitation of a rural nucleus. In any case, he advanced will urgently request a meeting with Costas del Estado and will schedule another with the other groups of the corporation and the families.
