You have a cold? 5 tips for getting a good night’s sleep

A cold and a good night’s sleep often don’t get along. So try these five helpful tips for getting a good night’s sleep.

1. A hot shower or bath

A hot shower or bath is not only very relaxing, it also causes the sinuses to open. This will allow you to breathe easier, which will help you fall asleep earlier.

2. Freezer

Put the pillowcase or sheets in the freezer before going to sleep. It sounds a little crazy, but if you have a fever you are often constantly looking for that cool place in your bed. Place the pillowcase and / or sheets in a resealable bag before putting it in the freezer.

3. Tea (at the right time)

The tea not only soothes the throat but also opens the sinuses. Just make sure it’s decaf tea and you don’t drink tea for the last hour before bed. If you do, you will most likely still need to pee while you sleep.

4. Pillows

Before going to sleep, make sure you put a number of pillows on top of each other so that you lie a little higher than normal. If you lie down, mucus will build up in your throat. This will cause you to cough and you will not be able to fall asleep easily.

It can be very frustrating if you have to sneeze and / or cough a lot, and despite all the well-meaning advice, you’re still staring at the ceiling for hours. As difficult as it may be, try not to worry too much about the sleep deprivation you have accumulated so far. Think of something fun and positive. If that doesn’t work, you can also turn on a podcast or audiobook as a distraction. Eventually you will fall asleep.
