Shocked car industry
Bilimportørenes Landsforening director Erik Andresen believes the budget is bad news for green change.
– This means a sharp increase in the price of new cars, especially as a one-off tax is introduced on electric cars at the same time as the introduction of VAT.
He believes that the combination of periods of economic crisis and high tax hikes will slow down car fleet replacement considerably.
– All new cars will be significantly more expensive next year. The consequence is that the old high-emission cars will stay on the road. This is very serious when we need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030. I expect SV will support the climate in the budget negotiations, says Andresen.
– We were at full capacity towards the goal of selling only zero-emission cars in 2025, but with this budget the electric car and the green shift have suffered a serious setback, says director Erik Andresen of Bilimportørenes Landsforening. Photo: National Association of Car Porters
Norges Bilbransjeforbund (NBF), which organizes car workshops and dealerships, is also reacting strongly.
– Electric cars are the big losers of the state budget. All the changes are shocking. Many ordinary electric cars will cost several tens of thousands of crowns more. One thing is the VAT, but also the weight tax. We wonder if the government really wants to cut emissions. But let’s hope and assume SV won’t stand by, says NBF communications manager Egil Steinsland.
– The weight charge is an autonomy charge because the batteries weigh. At the same time comes the VAT. The government is shorting the investment in electric cars, says Stig Skjøstad, CEO of NAF in a press release.
Surprising rate
The big surprise in the state budget proposal is a completely new tax burden.
For all new cars .
According to what the auto industry understands, this is in addition to the existing weight tax, which is currently levied on all types of cars, with the exception of electric cars.
VG has calculated what the new weight tax for passenger cars means for you Volkswagen ID. 5 GTX .
The car weighs 2,167 kilograms according to the Information Council for Road Traffic. So a weight tax of NOK 12.50 has to be paid for 1,667 kilos.
The new weight tax amounts to nearly NOK 21,000.
This is in addition to the new VAT above NOK 500,000, which in our example is NOK 25,000.
A Volkswagen identity card. 5 GTX will therefore be, according to our calculations, almost NOK 50,000 more in the new year if the budget is adopted.
Here are some other examples of the impact of the proposed weight tax:
Hyundai Kona: 15,400 kr.
Tesla Model Y: 18,500 kr.
Id. 4: 18,900 Danish kroner.
Porsche Taycan: 20,500 kr.
The car model that increases taxes (VAT and weight tax) the most is the Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo: the increase is NOK 333,688.
In BilNytt’s tax calculator you can see what the proposed VAT and weight tax will be for the electric car.

Cars with other powertrains also get a tax increase.
The government proposes to increase the tariffs i The CO₂ component for passenger cars by 20 percent over the price increase.
Already last year he got refillable hybrids significantly higher rate . The autonomy requirement for the maximum possible tax relief went from 50 to 100 km, while the so-called weight deduction went from 23 percent to 15 percent.
The government is now proposing to further reduce the weight allowance, to ten percent.
– Waited
– Higher one-off fees are expected on plug-in hybrids, hybrids, and petrol and diesel cars, says Atle Falch Tuverud.
He is editor-in-chief of the industry website BilNytt.no
– As VAT for electric cars is about to be introduced, the government must also raise taxes on other car models so that the electric car does not lose ground compared to other car models.
