“You Can’t Pet Dogs in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: Fans Disappointed with Breath of the Wild Follow-Up”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom didn’t address one of the complaints Breath of the Wild fans had.

The open-world Hyrule of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is home to countless different creatures, from monsters to friendly NPCs to various animals, including dogs. The same was true of its predecessor, Breath of the Wild. Unfortunately, Zelda: Breath of the Wild didn’t allow players to pet the dogs they encountered in the open world, so fans were hoping that Tears of the Kingdom would fix that. Now that Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is in the hands of the masses, fans have discovered that you can’t pet dogs in the new game either.

It takes players a few hours to get to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s open-world Hyrule, which is home to dogs and other animals, but fans quickly discovered that they couldn’t pet the dogs. The Can You Pet the Dog Twitter account was quick to confirm this sad news.

It’s unclear why Nintendo won’t let players pet dogs in Tears of the Kingdom, but at least you can interact with other animals in the game. As in Breath of the Wild, in Tears of the Kingdom players can find wild horses that can be ridden and tamed. With the help of horses, it is possible to cross the huge open world of Hyrule much faster, and they can be enrolled in the stables scattered around the map. So, while players don’t have the opportunity to fully interact with the dogs, at least there are some animal bonding moments.

Although highly unlikely, it is possible that Nintendo will update Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to allow players to pet the dogs and have other interactions with the animals. Nintendo released DLC expansions for Breath of the Wild that added significant new content to the game, but there are currently no plans to do the same for Tears of the Kingdom. For now, Zelda fans will have to accept that they just can’t pet the dogs in Tears of the Kingdom.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
