India flaunts its military might as a symbol of union for the national day

New Delhi, Jan 26 (EFE).- India on Thursday displayed its military capacity, a symbol of union for the Asian giant that celebrates the seventy-fourth Republic Day with its traditional parade of dances and floats that recounts history of the nation after the entry into force of the 1950 Constitution. The iconic boulevard of New Delhi, known until last year as Rajpat and renamed Kartavya Path (the path of duty, in Hindi) to redeem itself from any loophole of the time British colonial, witnessed the folkloric weapons show, which took place for the first time without restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic. Indian President Droupadi Murmu, accompanied by her Egyptian counterpart and her main guest, Abdelfatah al Sisi, led the traditional ceremony, which began with a march of hundreds of Egyptian Armed Forces officers. The Asian giant celebrates 75 years of relations with Egypt, a country with which it precisely agreed yesterday after a meeting with the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to stress the need to combat cross-border terrorism and elevate its relations to the rank of strategic alliance. The parade continued with a colorful procession representing various states of the country, enlivened with dances and cultural events, as well as a display of weapons systems made in India that were exhibited along the central boulevard of the capital under the watchful eye of thousands of viewers. This year’s ceremony was highlighted by the presence of a contingent of women from the Central Reserve Police, followed by a march by the naval forces led for the first time by a female officer. Before the parade, Modi paid tribute to the military martyrs at the National War Memorial as he does every year accompanied by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. The air show, in which dozens of planes at the service of the Indian Air Force participated, put the finishing touch to this traditional ceremony, which extols the military muscle and cultural diversity of this country of 1.4 billion inhabitants. Republic Day marks the date on which India laid the foundations as an independent and republican nation by enforcing its first Constitution, after the expulsion of the British. On this important date, the Asian giant takes advantage every year to demonstrate its defense capacity, cultural heritage, and the elements of a diverse nation. (c) EFE Agency
