After announcing that The Witcher is getting a remake, GOG is giving away the original for free.
In case you missed it, today (October 26) The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red revealed that one of its previously announced projects is actually a remake of the original The Witcher game. This means that fans of subsequent The Witcher games will soon be able to revisit Geralt’s first adventure, this time in Unreal Engine 5.
Seemingly coincidentally, GOG (it will open in a new tab) is helping fans celebrate the news by offering not only The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, but also a GWENT Card Keg for free. All you need to do to get it is to subscribe to the site’s newsletter. However, there seems to be some confusion about this. As explained on Twitter, anyone who wants to get The Witcher: Enhanced Edition must first download GWENT for free.
To update you, one of the games CD Projekt Red announced last month – codenamed “Project Canis Majoris” at the time – was called a remake of The Witcher. According to the tweet that shared the news, Fool’s Theory – which you may know working on Baldur’s Gate 3 and Outriders – is leading the project, not CD Projekt Red. We probably won’t hear anything new about this game for a long time, as the tweet also says:
We want to get it right, so please be patient – it will take a while before we can share more details.
