You can now record videos with two iPhone cameras at the same time: how does it work?

The DoubleTake application is compatible with the last two generations of iPhones and can now be downloaded for free from the App Store.

The new DoubleTake application, which allows you to record videos simultaneously with two iPhone cameras – a function shown by Apple last September during the presentation of the iPhone 11 – is already available In App Store since Tuesday.

DoubleTake was developed by the authors of FiLMiC Pro, one of the most popular camera apps for both iOS and Android, and can be downloaded for free.

Its multi-camera feature works on iOS 13 and is compatible with the last two generations of iPhones, which includes the iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, according pick up The Verge portal.

How does it work?

The new application is not difficult to use. First of all it is necessary to choose which two cameras will be used for simultaneous recording: the ultra-wide, wide, telephoto or front camera. Any combination of cameras is possible.

You also have to indicate at what frame rate the recording will be made: 24 fps, 25 fps or 30 fps, all of which record at 1080p (there is no option for 4K).

Finally, you just have to choose the way you want to record the videos, and here DoubleTake offers three options

  • Split screen mode

In this DoubleTake mode split the screen into two sections, one that will show the image recorded by the front camera and another for those who register the rear cameras.

Videos recorded in this mode will be exported to the internal library of the ‘app’ as a single file.

  • Picture in Picture (PiP) mode

If this mode is chosen, a small window with the video transmission of a camera overlays above the image main that records another camera, and that fills the screen.

This little window can be swipe across the screen anyway. As in the previous mode, videos recorded in PiP will be exported to the DoubleTake library as a single file.

Discreet Mode allows you to simultaneously record images from ultra-wide and wide cameras and then export them as two separate files. This option would be especially useful for operators and bloggers.
