you can halve it with one click and save 45 €

The RAI fee is a decidedly little-loved tax by Italians and always arouses much controversy.

Many thought that this year the RAI fee would go out of the bill to become an autonomous tax again, but this did not happen. In fact, the RAI license fee will only come out of the bill in 2023.

Until next year, therefore, nothing will change from this point of view. But the Rai has been trying for some time to increase the weight of the fee. Initially he tried at the end of last year asking that it even be extended to smartphones and tablets but he didn’t succeed.

There is a risk of increasing the fee, but there is a trick to halve it

Then the upper floors of Viale Mazzini recently asked for the rent to be increased. Their justification is that next year, with the exit from the bill and return to an autonomous tax, many will evade it and consequently Rai needs to raise cash right now.

Furthermore, RAI also justifies itself by explaining that the Italian canon is among the lowest in Europe and consequently there is a need to increase it to adapt it to that of other European countries. Yet many Italians would like not to pay the Rai license fee because they may not like the services offered by state TV or even perhaps on principle. The way to not pay the RAI license exists and is to declare that they do not have televisions or other devices capable of receiving the Rai signal at home.

Here’s how to save, but watch out for deadlines

So if you declare that you do not have at home televisions and not even computers here is that legally you can not pay the famous € 90 of the fee. But it must be borne in mind that the statutory date for submitting this application is on January 31. So it is a term that has now passed. However, there is still a way to save and that is to submit the application for exemption by June 30th.

The new deadline to halve it

In fact, by submitting the application for exemption by 30 June you will be exempted only for the second semester and so instead of paying € 90 you will only pay €45 and the other 45 will be spared. But there are two clarifications to be made regarding this. The first is that this question it must be absolutely truthful and that you don’t actually have televisions and computers in your home. The second clarification is that the application must then be resubmitted again at the beginning of next year. This is because the exemption application is only valid for each single year.
