You Can Get the COVID Vaccine for Children Under 5 at These South Florida Sites – NBC 7 Miami (51)

Following a recommendation from the CDC for all children ages 6 months to 4 years to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, many parents are wondering where they can take their children to receive the first dose, here in South Florida.

While there was a lot of confusion after it was revealed that Florida was the only state not pre-ordering the vaccine, community health centers and pharmacies were able to independently order and begin administering doses.

Although there will be a slight delay, local pediatricians and hospitals were also allowed access to order vaccinations.

Now, parents who have followed the doctors’ recommendations to vaccinate their young children only have to know where the places that provide the vaccine are located.

From Saturday, June 25 through Wednesday, June 29, Miami Dade County will host a COVID-19 Pediatric Vaccine Drive. There, parents will be able to bring their children, ages 6 months and older, to receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

Local Pharmacies

While local pharmacies have the ability to order and administer doses to young children, only a few offer this service with some restrictions.

Farmacia Walgreens: Children 3 years and older can get Pfizer or Moderna vaccines at a local Walgreens pharmacy. To make an appointment, please see here.

CVS Pharmacy: Children 18 months and older can get the Pfizer vaccine at a local clinic. To make an appointment, please see here.

Publix Pharmacy: The supermarket chain will not administer vaccinations to children 4 years of age and younger.

Pediatricians and Local Hospitals

Due to dose ordering mishaps, local pediatricians and hospitals are experiencing delays in receiving vaccines to administer.

This is a problem for children ages 6 to 18 months who cannot be vaccinated at local pharmacies. As a result, they will have to wait for the doses to be received by doctors’ offices.

Local hospitals like Niklaus Children’s Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital say that as soon as they receive the doses, they will start offering vaccines for young children.

Dr. Aileen Marty assures that this delay may be worth it, as she recommends that children be vaccinated by their doctor to increase safety measures.
