You can finally ‘unsafe’ pull your USB stick from your computer

Microsoft is finally over. After years of insisting that users ‘safely remove’ their USB stick, the company has decided that this is no longer necessary.

Do you recognize it too: have to manually click on your Windows computer that you want to remove your USB stick before you actually do that? That is now a thing of the past.

A new mode

Still, there was always a good reason for it. Windows used to process USB sticks in ‘Better performance’ mode so far, which helped transfer files properly. As a result, if a stick was not safely removed, there was a chance that you would lose files.

From now on, your computer will be in ‘Quick delete’ mode by default. If you pull your USB stick out of your computer in that mode, nothing can go wrong.

‘Quick delete’

The ‘Quick delete’ mode has always existed, but you had to turn it on manually. With a new update of Windows 10, this is now the standard. Your computer should update itself automatically.

It’s good news for anyone who has always ripped their USB out of their computer without thinking, but less positive for people who often transfer large files. For them, the ‘Enhanced Performance’ mode remains a better option. Fortunately, you can also reset your computer to that: Microsoft offers a roadmap stating how to do this.
