Editing messages already sent on WhatsApp could be a reality very soon: the latest beta version of the application already hides this function.
It may not be the fastest to implement new features, but little by little WhatsApp is adding more and more useful features to its messaging app. Feedback is in, the app’s API has been opened to everyone, and soon it will be possible to leave groups without anyone knowing. But none of this news is as important as the one that is about to land in the application.
While reviewing the code of the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, the folks over at WABetaInfo discovered that very soon it will be possible to edit messages that have already been sent in WhatsApp chats.
Editing WhatsApp messages you have already sent will soon be possible
Editing messages is perhaps one of the most eagerly awaited features by WhatsApp users, and one that seems to require the most work from the company. In fact, the first clues to this feature were discovered five years ago.
Now, it has been discovered that the latest beta version of the app includes the ability to edit a message that has already been sent. As you can see from the screenshots, the edit message option will be accessible from the options menu after selecting a chat message with a long press.
Since the function is in development, there is currently no data on aspects such as the time the user will have to send a message since it was sent, nor the type of indicator that will appear. in the message to indicate to the receiver that the message has been modified.
Anyway, since the option already seems to be implemented in the latest beta, it is very likely that we will continue to discover details about it in the coming days.
At the moment it is not possible to edit messages already sent, even by installing the latest beta version of WhatsApp. Even so, it is advisable to keep WhatsApp updated with the latest version available to ensure that we don’t miss any of the latest news.
