Carlos Alcaraz has shown at the Laver Cup that he is the most in-form tennis player in the world. He racked up four wins in the tournament and led Team Europe to victory against the rest of the world. And John McEnroe has showered him with incredible praise.
He did so just after taking the title: “To start with, I would say that he is one of the five fastest and most agile players I have ever seen on a tennis court. His hand talent is exquisite, he can do whatever he wants with the ball, he has an impressive sensitivity in his racket.”
“On top of that, the power he is able to put into his shots is mind-blowing,” the tennis legend continues.
“But the most authentic and fun thing about him is the passion he feels for tennis that he is able to transmit on the court. He is always able to smile without losing concentration and he knows how to get out of difficult situations with great skill. I wish I had had that. I think Carlos’s virtues are unique, nothing like it has been seen,” he says.
Europe won the Laver Cup again two years later with a tremendous Alcaraz. He beat Taylor Fritz in the final match by 6-2 and 7-5.
