In response to various approaches by the South Californian fishing sector, the head of the Secretariat of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Agricultural Development (SEPADA), José Alfredo Bermúdez Beltrán, confirmed that, as part of the State Budget for this year, the agency under his charge is guaranteed the continuity of the Life Insurance Program for Riverside Fishermen.
The state official recalled that this program offers the payment of a premium of up to one hundred thousand pesos in support of relatives of the producers who lose their lives, regardless of whether the death derives from natural causes or from an accident that has to do with or not with their productive activity.
He established that there is currently a register of 4,400 benefited producers in the five municipalities of the entity, to which he added that in the coming days there will be an exhaustive review of this register in order to verify that those who make it up are authentic women and men of the sea.
He also said that the investment that the State Government allocates to this program is around 3.5 million pesos, at the time, in which he stressed that currently there is guaranteed coverage until next July, as well as the budget allocation so that a Once this concludes, hire a new one until July 2023.
It concluded that although the support provided is not a definitive solution to the new conditions faced by the relatives of the deceased producer, it is an important solidary support that the state government grants to these families, many of the which remain in total uncertainty when losing the head of the family.
