Spencer accused journalist Martin Bashir, who had interviewed Lady Diana 25 years ago for fraudulently gaining his trust. He had to falsify bank statements and get to the princess.
In Britain alone, more than 20 million people watched a shocking BBC interview at the time. In it, Diana declared a sentence that went down in the history of the royal family: “There were three of us in that marriage.”
As the portal pointed out DeadlineThe BBC launched an investigation last November, when Spencer allegedly came forward. Diana turned out to be enthusiastic about the idea of doing such an interview, but Bashir violated the ethical rules of public journalism. Prince Harry even said on Friday that he had no doubt that the interview was one of the causes of his mother’s death.
“Our mother was an incredible woman who dedicated her life to the service of the monarchy. She was adamant, brave and, above all, sincere. The culture of exploitation and unethical practices eventually took her life,” Harry said in a statement.
The BBC apologized for the circumstances of the interview. “We can’t turn back time after more than a quarter of a century. But we can apologize, completely and unconditionally. We are very sorry,” said Tim Davie, CEO of British television.
