Find My (or Search My in Dutch) is a feature that you may not use very often. But if you need it, you’ll be very happy that it exists. Thanks to Find My, countless people have already managed to find their Apple device. And there will be many more thanks to iOS 15.
Find My has been around for quite some time now and has expanded considerably over the years. You can now find almost every Apple device with it. With the AirTag there is now even a product that is all about this feature. In addition to these extensions, the system has also become smarter. For example, since iOS 13, you can also find a device that is offline again.
Find My in iOS 15
With iOS 15, Apple is taking it one step further. When you the latest version of the OS is running, you can also find devices that are turned off via Find My/Find My. At least, if you have an iPhone with a U1 chip. This new function uses the Ultra Wideband technology. If you have one of the iPhone models below, you’re in the right place:
- iPhone 12
- iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 12 mini
With the arrival of iOS 15, you can always find the above iPhone models, even when they are turned off. And that’s not all. Even if someone resets your iPhone to factory settings, you can track them via the Find My app. Malicious persons will now have to remove your iCloud account from the device to prevent them from being tracked.
Only for iPhone
If you own an Apple Watch Series 6, we have bad news for you. Despite the fact that this model has a U1 chip, this Find My update is not (yet) coming to your smartwatch.
