A procession honoring the memory of the two policemen who lost their lives untimely 2 years ago was held in Burgas.
While on duty on August 25, 2022, senior police officers Atanas Gradev and junior inspector Yordan Iliev, fulfilling their duty in the service of the public of Burgas, tried to stop a bus with refugees pursued by the law enforcement authorities. In the fatal collision the two worthy men lost their lives.
Organizers of the event are ODMVR-Burgas and the “Emil Sharkov” Foundation. Charitable funds were also collected for the cause of the foundation, which benefits children of deceased and deceased employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system.
The starting point of the procession was the building of the Regional Directorate, and dozens of participants walked to the “Trapezitsa” roundabout, where a memorial service was held in front of the memorial plaque of Atanas Gradev and Yordan Iliev. Flowers and wreaths were also laid by the relatives of Burgas heroes and police officers.
Dimitar Kangaldzhiev, chief secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was also present at the site, accompanied by the director of the ODMVR-Burgas senior commissioner Emil Pavlov.
“We have gathered to pay tribute to our two valiant officers who lost their lives in the line of duty 2 years ago. For all of us, their names have become a symbol of honor and dignity, self-denial and civic duty to mother Bulgaria. In their honor, I can only say: Nasko, Dancho, you are not forgotten and you are forever one of us”said Senior Commissioner Pavlov.
“Two years later, the grief is still strong. Tears are visible. But at the same time, I see the unity and respect that our colleagues have engendered through their actions. Athanasius and Jordan became an example of valor and bravery. Days like these remind us how transient we all are. May God protect us all and may such tragedies never happen again” Chief Secretary Kangaldzhiev shared for his part.
