The magic circle of awards closes with the victory of the great favorite who in thanksgiving remembers striking actors and screenwriters in Hollywood, and in the films makes us understand that not all the images and stories have been told. It’s the impertinent, bald but disheveled Greek, Yorgos Lanthimos, with his female version of Frankenstein in Poor Things. At the Lido he won the Grand Jury Prize in 2018 with The Favorite, in two weeks he turns 50, a nice way to celebrate.

Best actress, surprisingly (winning against Carey Mulligan for Maestro on Bernstein) is the 25-year-old Cailee Spaeny, for Sofia Coppola’s lifeless Priscilla, on Elvis’ young wife; as an actor Peter Saarsgard wins for Memory by Michel Franco, who reads a speech as long as an Egyptian papyrus, between artificial intelligence, humanitarianism and Catholicism, but this year almost everyone showed up with a soporific leaflet, and yes it’s about thanking stop. The screenplay was written by Pablo Larraín, in El Conde there is Pinochet as a tired vampire, besieged by the greed of his heir sons, more vampires than his father. Grotesque fresco, the Chilean dictator can be called a murderer, which he was, but if he is called a thief he goes mad. «A man who died in freedom and was rich.
