The reason for the resignation is the military intelligence law voted on Thursday. It contains two obstacles to Bakalov remaining in office. The first is the requirement to have more than 10 years of experience in the national security system. The second arose additionally after the proposal of BSP deputy Tasko Ermenkov that the head of military intelligence be only a senior officer was accepted in the plenary hall. The previous version of the law allowed the appointment of a civilian.
Bakalov was appointed director of the “Military Information” service on May 19 of this year.
