Yonkers Residents Arrested for Operating Chop Shop in New Jersey; Stolen Cars Dismantled for Parts

Edison Cuevas and Virelsa Guzmán, both residents of Yonkers (NY), were arrested after police dismantled a workshop in New Jersey where they apparently broke down stolen cars to sell the parts.

The police found stolen cars that were being dismantled at the “Veracity Stone Fabricators” warehouse located at 23 Daniel Rd. East in Fairfield (NJ) the early morning of January 29, reported yesterday Pix11.

Cuevas (37) and Guzmán (33) were arrested and charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, conspiracy and operating a facility for the sale of stolen automobile parts, police said.

Investigators raided the warehouse after receiving a tip. Police found several smashed Honda cars at the scene. At least two of those cars had been reported stolen in New York City in the past two months.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely. “Our detectives have done an outstanding job locating the suspects in this case and have been working diligently to determine the guilt of each,” said Fairfield Police Chief Anthony G. Manna.

All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Car thefts in NYC have increased an alarming 191% compared to before the COVID pandemic (2019), based on 2023 closing data released by the New York Police Department.

The main centers of car theft in general were The Bronx and Queenssaid NYPD Chief of Crime Control Strategies Mike Lipetri, noting that most were brazenly robbed in the streets. “Obviously we have analyzed where these vehicles were stolen, but also where They are recovering outside of New York City, in places like New Jersey and Westchester.
