A year has passed since the start of the corona 19 epidemic in Korea, and as the spread of the winter season continues, around 1,000 new confirmed cases a day are emerging.

With the development of vaccines to counter this, expectations are high whether it will be possible to return to daily life this year.

Reporter Jinwoo Lee looked into how the overseas vaccine supply and demand is going.

The total number of overseas vaccines secured by Korea to date is 56 million people.

This means that we have secured more supplies than our original goal of securing 44 million people within the year.

The remaining challenge is when and from whom will this vaccine be given?

The government plans to first supply vaccines to 1 million people, including workers in high-risk medical institutions and elderly people in nursing hospitals, from February to March.

After that, the vaccines that will come in sequentially until November will be inoculated after verifying the safety and efficacy.

Currently, AstraZeneca is planning to introduce AstraZeneca from February to March, Janssen in the second quarter, and Pfizer vaccine in the third quarter, but a detailed vaccination schedule has not been set.

Experts emphasize that as each vaccine has a different vaccination method and different timing of introduction, it is necessary to plan the vaccination in detail.

Pfizer and Modena vaccines are developed in a different way from existing vaccines, so safety in the mid- to long-term is not secured, and the distribution process is difficult.

For this reason, it is pointed out that it is necessary to receive the AstraZenecan or Janssen vaccine first, given the preparation time.

“In the case of AstraZeneca’s vaccine and Janssen’s vaccine, we have used conventional methods, so if we confirm that there are no short-term side effects, there will be no major problems in mid- to long-term safety…

The government plans to designate a separate vaccination center by securing 250 freezers within the first quarter of this year for Pfizer vaccinations that need to be distributed and stored at cryogenic temperatures.

In addition, the national compensation system is being reviewed for side effects after vaccination.
