Domestic development support for automotive semiconductor crisis… Limitations in solving problems

The shortage of global automotive semiconductors is disrupting global automobile production.
There is a forecast that the situation will continue until the end of the year, and the domestic industry is inevitable.
In an urgent situation, the government has also taken measures, but it is not enough to resolve the situation.

At the beginning of last month, three North American plants of General Motors and GM of the United States stopped.
This is due to the lack of automotive semiconductors, but GM did not disclose the timing of the restart as it extended the shutdown again this month.
Ford also expects production in the first quarter to decrease by 20% from last year due to shortage of semiconductors, and Japan’s Honda and Nissan have also started to cut production.
“The expansion needs to take place, but it takes at least six months, so it is possible that this situation will be prolonged until the end of this year…
The global scarcity of automotive semiconductors is the main reason that the demand forecasts of the semiconductor industry have deviated as the automotive market escapes from the coronavirus pitfall faster than expected.
As automotive semiconductors are not produced in Korea, the domestic situation is also difficult.
GM Korea is already running its Bupyeong 2 plant in half, and Hyundai and Kia have also cut some of their weekend operation hours.
Then, the government began to simplify the import process and support the development of semiconductors for vehicles. First, we support 40 billion won to establish a rapid performance evaluation system for the developed semiconductor.
“In the short term, it is necessary to cooperate closely with the international community and to procure rapid imports of semiconductors…
However, as it takes many years to develop and test, and electric vehicles that are rapidly growing require more semiconductors, there will be a limit to solving the supply and demand uncertainty.
