President Mori said that the inappropriate remarks caused great confusion and said he apologized for causing trouble to many.
The organizing committee formed a committee to select the successor of Chairman Mori and decided to enter the formal process for the replacement of the chairman.
According to the organizing committee’s articles of association, the board of directors has the authority to appoint and dismiss the chairman, and the board of directors is required to be appointed among the directors of the organizing committee.
Local media reports that the former speed skating Olympic medalist Seiko Hashimoto is being considered as a strong candidate.
