Eisuke Shirai Representative Director Yokohama B-Corsairs Co., Ltd.
Thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedules to gather here at the Takigashira Kaikan today. On behalf of the club, I would like to thank you. This Takigashira Kaikan is a venue that we, the Yokohama B-Corsairs, have been using for a long time as a practice ground for the top team. We are very grateful to be able to hold this press conference at this venue, which was newly launched as our new business.
Yokohama B-Corsairs has signed a player contract with Yuki Kawamura for the B League 2023-24 season next season. This contract is not a one-year contract, but a three-year contract until the 2025-26 season.
As you all know, Yuki Kawamura’s performances this season were really eye-opening even from our point of view, and he was even selected for the Japan national team, rapidly rising to stardom. I think it was a year.
After spending that season, I think that Kawamura probably had various options, but the decision was made that he would cut down on those various options and aim for the championship together with us at the Yokohama B-Corsairs. gave me
As a club, we are truly grateful that Kawamura left a comment saying that he wants to win the championship with B-Col. rice field. We believe that this is a great responsibility for us.
At the same time, I believe that having a player named Yuki Kawamura, who will lead the future of Japanese basketball at the forefront, as a club comes with a great responsibility. We can no longer fail. We will definitely remain in the new B1, and not only will we remain, but we will become a team of protagonists who can firmly compete for the championship there. I believe that we must become a club that has high expectations.
As a club, I feel that it has become a must to grow into a club that matches that, and to grow as a company. We would like to grow as a company step by step so that we can fully meet these expectations.
This season, we made the best 4 of the Emperor’s Cup, finished 2nd in the regular season mid-district, and made the best 4 of the championship.
In addition, the average number of regular season attendance was 3,694, which is close to the so-called Big Five clubs. Especially in the 24 matches held at the Yokohama International Pool, the average number of spectators was able to increase to a level close to 4,000. As a club, I believe that we have grown into a club that is seen first among leagues and clubs entering new leagues.
Solidify the foundation, grow steadily as a club from the next season onwards, and achieve better results than this season next season. This season was the best 4 results, so first of all, we won the central district. After that, I would like to advance to the final of the championship and create a club that can firmly aim for the championship.
Of course, we need Kawamura’s power to do that, and together with him and the other players, I would like to do my best to win the championship at this club again next season. .
Yokohama B-Corsairs General Manager Ken Takeda
I myself am very happy to be able to announce the continuation of Yuki Kawamura. I am very much looking forward to Kawamura’s continued growth as the face of B-Col and as the face of Japan.
As a team, this season has been a big leap forward. Not only Kawamura, but all the players and the staff worked really hard every day to get results, and I am really proud of it. Among them, Kawamura’s growth became a big piece and raised the whole team.
Kawamura became the assist king with his signature assists, but I think that this season was not just that, but scoring was also very important. Last season he averaged 10 points, but this season he has almost doubled that to 19.5 points. I think it was really great growth.
I think one of the factors was the improvement of the 3P shoot. His percentage of 3-point shots in his total points scored last season has increased from 26% last season to 43% this season, and his success rate has also increased from last season to 34.4%.
Against Kawamura’s speed, the opponent’s defense was forced into a very difficult situation in which they had to defend in a wide range, and for our entire team’s offense, we were able to have many options. I think it worked really well.
Of course, Kawamura’s score was due to the tactics of the coaches and the dedicated spacing and movements of other players, but I would like to see his efforts over the past year. As a person, I think that he was able to achieve that result because he took responsibility for the team and devoted himself to it every day. This is a big attraction for him, and I think it’s an achievement.
I think that the opponent’s defense will be even tougher next season, but I believe that they will face each challenge one by one and overcome it firmly. I myself am very much looking forward to the growth beyond this season.
This season he has far exceeded our expectations. The team did a great job with it as well. I myself am very much looking forward to seeing results that exceed my expectations in the next season.
Yokohama B-Corsairs #5 Yuki Kawamura
I will be playing for the Yokohama B-Corsairs in the 2023-24 season as well. This season, we set a big goal as a team to participate in the championship, and I am very happy that we were able to achieve that goal, but I am very disappointed that the Emperor’s Cup and the championship ended in the best four. rice field.
I had the option of moving to another team and playing with a higher goal, but it is Yokohama B that can make the most of this frustration and reflection and face the game with strong motivation.・I thought there was only Corsairs. In order to clear up this frustration, I thought it would be best to fight with this team. This is the first reason why I chose this club.
This season we were in the best 4, but as President Shirai said, next season we will aim to win the Central District championship first, then hold the championship at home, and then definitely win the championship and win the league. I would like to come.
And I would like not only to win the championship, but also to make B-Col a club that can take root in the city of Yokohama. I want to be a club that “becomes a part of family and life”, so I want to be the kind of person who can lead it.
