Yogyakarta (ANTARA) – The Yogyakarta City Government is trying to add beds for COVID-19 patients in hospitals and shelters for patients with coronavirus infection who need quarantine facilities in an effort to meet the need for places to treat COVID-19 patients.
“Currently, we are still trying to make the hospital continue to increase the bed capacity to the maximum extent. In addition, we are also making improvements to the facilities at Rusunawa Gemawang to be used as a centralized isolation unit,” said Yogyakarta Deputy Mayor Heroe Poerwadi in Yogyakarta, Monday.
Currently, the referral hospital for handling COVID-19 in the city of Yogyakarta is almost full. Treatment rooms in the intensive care unit (ICU) are 97 percent occupied, non-ICU treatment rooms are 85 percent occupied, and emergency rooms are 87 percent occupied.
In an effort to increase patient care rooms at the hospital, a tent that can accommodate 50 beds was set up in the Jogja Hospital complex. Korem 072 stated that it is ready to lend additional tents with a capacity of 50 beds if needed.
In addition, the Yogyakarta City Government plans to turn the city government’s Pratama Hospital into a special hospital for handling COVID-19 if the need for patient care rooms has not been met.
In order to meet the needs of isolation facilities, Rusunawa Gemawang will function as a quarantine place to support isolation facilities in Rusunawa Tegalrejo.
Rusunawa Gemawang owned by the Yogyakarta Special Region Government has 34 rooms and is expected to be used as a place of isolation starting next week.
“We have submitted this operational plan to Sleman Regency. Rusunawa Gemawang is in the district,” said Heroe.
The facility is planned for patients who cannot self-isolate at home because the condition of the house is considered unfit.
“In some areas there have also been additional isolation places by utilizing the RW or RK halls, meeting buildings, or sports buildings in the sub-district, including the sub-district official’s house,” said Heroe.
In addition, the administrators of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Special Region of Yogyakarta operate three hotels as self-isolation shelters for COVID-19 patients and one hotel as a place of quarantine.
“Hopefully, the fulfillment of the need for self-isolation can be fulfilled,” said Heroe.
Regarding the fulfillment of oxygen needs for handling COVID-19 patients, Heroe said that the medical oxygen supply is still sufficient for the next four to seven days.
“The supply of oxygen to the hospital is still running,” he said.
In addition to providing additional treatment rooms for COVID-19 patients, the Yogyakarta City Government plans to accelerate the implementation of vaccinations to control the transmission of the corona virus.
