REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA — The Yogyakarta Health Service (Dinkes) said the pneumonia case in Gudeg City was still under control. Although there were cases of pneumonia, he emphasized that none were found mysterious pneumonia caused by mycoplasma bacteria as found in DKI Jakarta.
“There was no significant increase in pneumonia cases, meaning it is still relatively under control in Yogyakarta City,” said Head of Disease Control Prevention and Data Management and Health Information Systems, Yogyakarta City Health Office, Lana Unwanah at the Yogyakarta City Hall Complex, Friday (9/12/ 2023).
Lana explained that pneumonia is part of an acute respiratory tract infection (ARI), namely lower respiratory tract infection which has infected the lung tissue. Pneumonia can be caused by bacterial, viral and fungal infections.
Meanwhile, pneumonia that occurs in China is caused by mycoplasma bacteria, which often occurs in children. Lana said that reporting cases related to pneumonia in the city of Yogyakarta has continued to be carried out by hospitals and community health centers through the early alert and response (SKDR) system since early January 2023 until now.
Since the first week at the beginning of January 2023, Yogyakarta Regional Hospital has reported 156 cases of pneumonia. Meanwhile, the largest number of community health centers was the Kotagede I Community Health Center which reported 119 cases of pneumonia.
“At the Mergangsan Health Center there were 95 cases, and at Ngampilan 90 cases. This is relatively the same number of cases in the same period last year (2023). So the pneumonia is still stable,” said Lana.
Lana explained that most of the pneumonia in Yogyakarta City was neither severe nor mild. That way, the cases found do not require hospitalization in hospitals or health centers.
“The majority can be treated on an outpatient basis. Medicines for acute respiratory infections are generally available in hospitals and health centers,” he said.
