Yogyakarta (ANTARA) – The Yogyakarta City Health Service (Dinkes) urges people in this area to increase their awareness of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD) during the rainy season.
“In terms of risk factors, dengue fever is the disease to watch out for in the rainy season, as there are many water bodies which, if not disposed of, can become mosquito breeding sites, ” said the Chief. from the Infectious Disease Control and Immunization Department of Yogyakarta City Health Office, Endang Sri Rahayu in Yogyakarta, Friday.
Based on data from the Yogyakarta City Health Office, from January to October 2024, 238 dengue fever cases were recorded. This figure has increased compared to the same period in 2023 with 88 cases.
According to Endang, most dengue fever patients are children, although all dengue fever patients in the hospital have been declared cured.
The spread of dengue fever cases this year was mostly found in Sorosutan Village, reaching 17 cases, followed by Kricak Village with 15 cases, and Wirogunan Village with 14 cases.
To prevent widespread cases, Endang appealed to the public to prevent dengue fever by eliminating mosquito nets (PSN).
Communities must also implement 4M Plus, which is draining bathtubs and pools of water, covering them so they don’t become mosquito breeding grounds, monitoring mosquito larvae, and burying used items.
According to him, the Yogyakarta City Health Office is also making innovations in collaboration with the Center for Tropical Medicine, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) through the Wolbachia mosquito technology.
“The movement is final mist “According to standard operating procedures (SOP), that is if transmission occurs based on epidemiological studies,” Endang said.
The head of Community Health Center Umbulharjo I, Yunita Haryanti, said that the treatment and control of dengue fever in her area is done by providing prevention education directly to the people in the area.
“We also use social media for education through content or infographics. In addition, we also reduce or provide Abate powder to water-flooded areas to kill Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae and prevent dengue outbreaks,” he said.
