Beritajogja.com (Jogja) – The Yogyakarta City Government, through the Yogyakarta City Health Office, continues to make various efforts to increase public awareness in carrying out early detection of cervical cancer and breast cancer.
One of them is by collaborating with all Community Health Centers in Yogyakarta City to carry out free checks using the visual inspection method with acetic acid – IVA, and early detection of breast cancer with clinical breast examination – Sadanis or independent breast examination – Sadari.
Head of the Section for Control of Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases and Mental Health at the Yogyakarta City Health Office, Iva Kusdyarini, said that examinations can be carried out for women of childbearing age starting from 30-50 years old.

Apart from that, other requirements include being sexually active, being married/having had a relationship, being a city resident or domiciled in the City of Yogyakarta or an employee/employee who works in the City of Yogyakarta.
“For unlimited quotas, only according to the service capacity at the puskesmas on the day and service schedule. “If there are too many patients, they will be directed to the next schedule,” explained Iva Kusdyarini, Monday (05/1/2024).
He added that checking via the IVA and Sadanis methods is an effective and efficient early detection of cervical and breast cancer whose results can be known immediately.

Where the achievement of VIA examinations in 2023 in the City of Yogyakarta will only reach 3.86% or around 2,491 women out of 64,510 women of childbearing age – wus who underwent VIA and Sadanis examinations in the City of Yogyakarta.
For this reason, he appealed to the public to prevent cervical cancer and breast cancer by controlling risk factors for unhealthy behavior such as obesity, lack of physical activity, not eating enough fruit and vegetables, smoking, promiscuous sex and alcohol.
Apart from that, the environment and having a genetic history of cancer in the mother’s or sibling’s family can also be a cause of cervical cancer and breast cancer.

“Until now, promotive and preventive activities related to early detection of cervical cancer and breast cancer have been carried out every year, in collaboration/partnership with the PKK and health cadres in the region, as well as collaborating with professional organizations such as the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI),” he said.
He hopes that the public will become more aware of the importance of early detection of cervical and breast cancer, so that if it is discovered early it can be treated immediately.
