Umbulharjo – Entering the rainy season, the Yogyakarta City Health Service (Dinkes) continues to raise awareness about dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD), especially for children as a vulnerable group.
The Head of the Infectious Disease Control and Immunization Department of the Yogyakarta City Health Office, Endang Sri Rahayu, explained that by October 2024 there will be 238 cases of dengue fever. This figure is said to have increased compared to 2023.
“In October last year there were 238 cases, in November there were 2 cases. Compared to last year, there was indeed an increase, and this increase also occurred in almost all regions of Indonesia. “In the city of Yogya there will be 88 cases of dengue fever in 2023, in 2022 there will be 174 cases and in 2021 there will be 92 cases,” he explained when confirmed on Wednesday (13/11/2024).
He said that most of the patients with dengue fever were children. Based on reports through early hospital surveillance or KDRS, patients with dengue fever receiving inpatient treatment at the hospital were declared cured.
“Most cases of dengue fever occurred in Sorosutan sub-district with 17 cases, 15 cases in Kricak and 14 cases in Wirogunan. In fact, it is almost equal across regions and the numbers vary. “With the current rainy season, we urge the public to be more aware of dengue fever,” he said.
He appealed to the public to prevent dengue fever by eliminating mosquito nests or PSN. Then add 4M more, which is draining bathtubs and pools of water, closing them so they don’t become mosquito breeding grounds, monitoring mosquito larvae and burying used items.
“There is also innovation in collaboration with the Center for Tropical Medicine, Gadjah Mada University, through the implementation of Wolbachia mosquito technology in controlling dengue fever,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of Community Health Center Umbulharjo I, Yunita Haryanti, said that dengue fever in her area was treated and controlled by direct prevention education to the people in the area. By continuing to invite and urge the public to implement 4M plus and PSN.
“We also use social media for education through content or infographics. Apart from this, fumigant powder is also reduced or given in flooded areas to kill Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae and prevent dengue fever. “Then smoke according to SOP based on epidemiological studies,” he said. (July)
