Yogyakarta City Government Encourages PCV Immunization for Infant and Toddler Children to Prevent Pneumonia

Beritajogja.com (Jogja) – The Yogyakarta City Government invites people who have infant and toddler children to complete the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine PCV immunization.

PCV immunization is important because it prevents pneumonia or pneumonia in children. Especially pneumonia caused by the pneumococcus virus.

Head of the Section for Prevention, Control of Infectious Diseases and Immunization at the Yogyakarta City Health Office, Endang Sri Rahayu, said that PCV immunization cannot prevent pneumonia caused by the bacteria Mycoplasma pneumonia.

That’s because the PCV vaccine is specific for preventing pneumonia caused by the pneumococcus virus. However, to prevent pneumonia in children, people are advised to complete PCV immunization.

“PCV immunization is an effort to prevent (pneumonia),” said Endang, Wednesday (13/12/2023).

He stated that PCV immunization is given to babies aged 2 months, 3 months and 1 year. The Yogyakarta City Government will start providing PCV immunization to babies in the City of Yogyakarta in September 2022.

The Yogyakarta City Health Office recorded that the achievement of PCV immunization until the third quarter of 2023 for the first dose of PCV was 91.1 percent, the second dose of PCV was 87.7 percent and the third dose of PCV was 23.5 percent.

“The data has not been validated for immunization because this December the immunization service – PCV is still running,” he said.

Endang appealed to people who have infant children who have not received PCV immunization to immediately access the community health center.

He admitted that immunizations are better given according to schedule. However, if it is late or missed the schedule, immunization is still carried out to prevent it.

“In principle, it can be given even if it is late. “But it’s better to go according to schedule,” added Endang
