Yogi Adityanath Declares Sanatan Dharma as India’s National Religion at Maha Kumbh
In a meaningful statement during the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared that Sanatan Dharma is India’s “national religion.” Speaking at the event, Adityanath emphasized the unifying essence of Sanatan Dharma, calling it the “religion of humanity.”
“Sanatan Dharma is the national religion of India. It is the religion of humanity. The process of worship can be different. But religion is one and that religion is Sanatan Dharma. Kumbh is the representative of that Sanatan Dharma,” Adityanath told NDTV.
The Maha Kumbh, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, has already witnessed over 11 crore devotees taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga,Yamuna, and the now-extinct Saraswati rivers. Adityanath highlighted the event’s inclusivity, stating that it transcends caste, religion, and discrimination.
“This message of unity was given by Maha Kumbh. There was no discrimination. People who used to criticise Sanatan Dharma, we say come see this. Do not be Dhritarashtra, come see it yourself,” the Chief Minister added.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, deeply rooted in Sanatan dharma, is a celestial event believed to offer spiritual cleansing and liberation (moksha) to devotees. This year’s gathering is expected to attract over 45 crore visitors, making it a historic occasion for India.
Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav also participated in the event, taking 11 holy dips at the Triveni Sangam. Speaking to reporters, Yadav emphasized the importance of faith and unity, stating, “People come hear with their faith.I took 11 holy dips. There is no place for divisive and negative politics.”
