Yoann Cathline will complete the season on a rental basis for Almere City, the PhD student announced via the official channels. The 21-year-old French youth international temporarily comes over from FC Lorient, which paid 2.7 million euros for its services to EA Guingamp last summer. The winger made 26 official appearances for the Ligue 1 club last season, scoring 3 goals and 1 assist. At Lorient, Cathline is still fixed until mid-2027. Almere has not stipulated a purchase option in the lease.
Almere announces the transfer through a beautiful film with a French touch, which was recorded at Restaurant BOUTIQ on the Grote Markt in Almere Centrum. The club describes Cathline as a versatile attacker who can play well on both the left and right flank. Cathline played a total of eight youth international matches for France Under 20, in which he scored two goals.

Technical manager Johan Hansma says he is satisfied with his acquisition. “Yoann is a fast, agile winger with depth and creativity. The arrival of Yoann offers us several offensive options.” Cathline made his breakthrough at Guingamp in the 2021/22 season, after which he was taken over by Lorient last summer. In his first season for that club, the right leg played 1,325 minutes. Cathline will now make flying hours in the Yanmar Stadium.
At Almere, Cathline will compete with wingers Anthony Limbombe, Faiz Mattoir, Rajiv van La Parra and Bradly van Hoeven. The PhD candidate has had a bad start to the new season under the leadership of trainer Alex Pastoor. In the first home game last week, Almere lost 1-4 against FC Twente, while last weekend Fortuna Sittard was 2-1 too strong. Next weekend, the Almeerders will travel to South Rotterdam, where a duel in De Kuip with national champions Feyenoord awaits.
