Yoann Barbet Discusses His Direct Free Kick Technique on France Blue Gironde

100% Girondins, Yoann Barbetcentral defender and captain of the Girondins of Bordeaux, was a guest on the show. He explained himself in particular on the direct free kicks he hits.

“It’s not a daily job, but it’s something I work on once or twice a week. I mainly developed it in Englandwhen I arrived at
Brentford. We had a specialist in direct free kicks, with a striking technique that I wanted to develop. We took a lot of examples from the videos of
Juninho, inevitably, with the ball going up and coming down directly. I worked for three years with him. I put some in Brentfordbut unfortunately I did not put any Queen’s Park
Rangers, so I got a lot of room (laughs). But on the one hand, I’m happy that it’s paying off today
Girondins. I hope I can put in some more this season to help the team.”

He was asked if there was another shooter like Gaétan Weissbeckand a hierarchy that was established:

“I told him that it was only me who was going to shoot this season (laughs). No, just kidding (laughs). We didn’t necessarily discuss it. We’ll see at the time, we train, too. I see that he is a very good free kick title holder. It will depend on where the ball is placed, where the goalkeeper is placed at the time of the free kick. There, it was more my side, I felt it. And it’s healthy, that’s what I like too.”
