Ympetu releases “Re-Armonizando” folk pop EP

This Thursday, March 23, the musical group Ympetu will release “Re-Armonizando”, an EP born from the desire of three young musicians to revalue huayno, yaraví and saya and bring them closer to new contexts such as pop, so that can be recognized and consumed by the new generations. This is how his musical proposal was born: folkloric pop that will be released on all digital platforms.

The EP brings together five traditional songs from the Andean repertoire transformed by Ympetu’s proposal: “We seek to show a musical proposal that sounds fresh and innovative, but that preserves and transmits the original essence of the Andean genre to make visible and spread our culture in a format that is approach new young audiences and promote the creation of links with them”, affirm the musicians

Ympetu is composed by: Richard Herrera Ponce (percussion), Adrian Alarcón Figueroa (bass) and Carlos Tejada Becerra (guitar). And for this EP they invited José Palacios Llancari for the keyboards and Joan Ly Vela for the sikuris.

Each of the songs were chosen because the group saw in them a potential that had not yet been explored and that they managed to explore by summoning some of the best vocal performers of their generation. Thus, they include the song “Alpaquitay” in a version performed by Carmen Marina, “Carnaval Arequipeño” in a novel rhythm, “Flor de retama” in the voice of Aranae, Qué bonitos son tus ojos sung by Andrea Martinez and “Sonqollay” performed by Camenino.

“We believe that each generation brings something new to its “folklore” and we want to be part of that constant evolution through “Re-Armonizando”. We hope that you like this EP, embrace it, make it yours, and experience with us all the infinite range of possibilities that our Peruvian music has”, commented the members of Ympetu.

It is important to note that this EP was possible thanks to the fact that the group deserved with this project the contribution of the Economic Stimulus for Culture 2021.
