Yiwu, September 19 / WAM / As the Asian Games that it hosts in Hangzhou approach, the city of Yiwu is witnessing a recovery in the sports equipment sector. Customs data showed that Yiwu exported 3.52 billion yuan worth of sporting goods in the first half of this year, an annual increase of 22.5%.
“Our main sales of basketball, football, volleyball and other ball games are entering an ‘explosive period,’ with sales increasing by more than 30% year-on-year,” Chinese newspaper People’s Daily Online quoted Xiang Lili, a trader in Yiwu City, as saying. “Orders are scheduled for a long time, with delivery times extending to October.”
She added that foreign orders now tend to be small and short-term, but of high quality. Therefore, the company continues to increase investment in research and development and is gradually shifting to medium to high quality products.
A customer from Pakistan said that he has been purchasing his goods from Yiwu International Trade City for many years, and that he is visiting Yiwu this time to buy basketball and sports-related products, while enhancing the sports atmosphere in Pakistan in the context of the upcoming Asian Games in China this year. Adding that he takes this opportunity to search for more cooperation opportunities with suppliers.
The Hangzhou Asian Games also indirectly promoted the craze for sports and fitness. Abdullah from Jordan said that sales of sporting goods in Jordan are on a continuous rise this year, which made him see it as an opportunity to open an additional sporting goods store, and his visit this time was aimed at purchasing goods for the new store.
Yiwu’s foreign trade has witnessed strong momentum since the beginning of this year. According to customs statistics, the total value of imports and exports of Yiwu City from January to July reached 321.1 billion yuan, an increase of 19.7% compared with the same period last year.
