Recently, South Korean President Yin Xiyue said that “tailored” benefits will be provided to attract Tesla’s super factory in South Korea.
According to a November 29 Reuters report, Yin Xiyue had a video call with Tesla CEO Elon Musk (Elon Musk) last week. Yin Xiyue’s office quoted Musk as saying South Korea is a top candidate for Tesla’s new factory. While Canada, Indonesia, India and Thailand were also mentioned as possible candidates for Tesla’s new factory, analysts point out that these countries do not have a mature automotive supply chain like South Korea.
During the video call, Yin Xiyue said that “tailored” incentives would be offered to encourage Tesla to build a Gigafactory in South Korea. South Korea will provide a large number of highly skilled workers, and the South Korean government will also ensure that companies foreign companies locating there will not face unforeseen financial or regulatory hurdles and will minimize the risks that radical unions could bring to the Tesla factory. Yin Xiyue accused the former South Korean government of frequently compromising with powerful trade unions, leading to a vicious circle of illegal strikes and “making radical union culture a serious problem in Korean society.”
