Yet second chance for Klaassen: ‘Don’t think that many people thought this beforehand’

Davy Klaassen and Werder Bremen have skied along the Bundesliga cliff for weeks, but are still alive, after the miraculous 34th matchday. The North Germans did what they had to do and won 6-1 (!) Against 1. FC Köln, while competitor Fortuna Düsseldorf was unable to keep up with Union Berlin and lost 3-0.

Werder Bremen was one and a half leg in the Second Bundesliga at the start of the football afternoon, but has yet another chance. “I don’t think many people expected this in advance,” Klaassen agrees with the club channels. “But we continued to believe in it. We felt that the whole club and the whole city remained behind us. And that paid off.”

Now the playoffs are waiting against the number 3 of the Second Bundesliga, 1. FC Heidenheim or maybe even arch rival Hamburger SV. “We are happy, but of course still far from satisfied,” warns Klaassen. Another ex-Ajax player, Niklas Moisander, supports his teammate from Hilversum. “Two more games and that’s it do or die.”

The last round in the Second Bundesliga is scheduled for Sunday. Werder Bremen opens the playoffs on Thursday, July 2 in-house and plays the return four days later.
