The Cultural Center of the Republic El Cabildo, under the general direction of Margarita Morselli, carried out the presentation of distinctions to the Masters of Art 2023. The ceremony held yesterday, in the session room of the National Congress, was attended by Leticia Ocampos, first lady of the Nation, and Luis Ramírez, Minister of Education and Sciences.
The highest cultural distinction of the Nation Congress, was awarded in the categories of Visual Arts, Dance, Music, Theater and Literature.
The awardees were: Hope Gill (visual arts); Elizabeth Arzamendia (dance); Rolando Chaparro (music); Mario Toñánez (theatre) and Gustavo Laterza (literature).
Recognition. Masters of Art is the highest distinction in the field of culture of the National Congress through the Cultural Center of the Republic El Cabildo.
Its purpose is to recognize in life those who have stood out in the promotion of national artistic manifestations, as well as in the task of cultural management for the benefit of citizens.
Awarded winners. Rolando Chaparro, one of the five Masters of Art 2023, is considered a legend of music in Paraguay, is a Paraguayan singer-songwriter, musician, guitarist of outstanding track record in both rock, pop and Paraguayan folklore.
Gustavo Laterza, who received recognition in the literature genre, is also a lawyer, writer, journalist and university professor.
He is also a researcher of historical sciences, his studies focus preferably on the colonial period, although in some cases they extend to the present. He contributed significantly to the field of literature in our country for three decades.
For his part, Mario Toñánez was recognized in the theater sector. The actor, director, teacher and playwright is also a cultural manager with a vast career, and includes more than 30 plays in which he worked under the direction of figures such as Blas Alcaraz, Rudy Torga, Humberto Gulino, Raquel, Rojas, among others. .
The winner in the dance category, Elizabeth Arzamendia is a dancer, a senior classical dance teacher, a graduate of the Tala Ern de Retivoff Studio, and a graduate in dance from the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (ISBA). She was in charge of the ISBA Dance Department. She was a dancer and co-founder of the Proballet Foundation.
For her part, Esperanza Gill, recognized in the visual arts category, was a student of the Spanish painter Torné Gavaldá. She took drawing and painting courses in the workshop of teacher Cira Moscarda.
In 1961, he participated in his first group exhibition and in 1974 his first individual exhibition, thus taking the big step in his successful career.
