Yemen’s Houthi Threat in Red Sea: Russian Tankers Exempt, Hindustan Times Reports

SERAMBINEWS.COM – The Yemeni Houthi threat in the Red Sea has forced foreign ships to stop or change their shipping routes.

However, this does not apply to Russian tankers.

Yemen’s Houthis have reportedly allowed Russian ships to cross the Red Sea without incident.

The report was published in the Hindustan Times newspaper, citing Russian media on Thursday (21/12/2023).

It said that Yemen’s Houthis did not attack any Russian tankers in the Red Sea.

Moscow’s ships can actually easily cross these waters via the Suez Canal.

This is in accordance with the Yemeni Houthi commitment not to disrupt global trade flows.

These militants will only target ships belonging to Israel or carrying goods to and from Israel.

Russian tankers usually carry oil to be sent to India.

Meanwhile other ships passed through the Red Sea with various interests.

Some of them were targeted by Yemen’s Houthis because they were suspected of being affiliated with Israel.

For example, the Galaxy Leader ship owned by an Israeli businessman, a Norwegian ship, and others.
