The cargo ship Rubymar, which was hit with missiles by the Houthis two weeks ago, sank in the Gulf of Aden, the BBC reported. This is the first such case since Yemeni rebelswhich however controls much of the country, announced that they would carry out strikes on vessels in the Red Sea in support of the Palestinian population in Gaza and the Hamas group.
The Houthis have launched attacks on passing ships, which they consider and declare to be related to Israel.
The ship Ruby lake carried 21,999 tons of ammonium nitrate and according to experts, its sinking in the Gulf of Aden could cause an ecological disaster.
The Port Authority of Djibouti, which was considering the issue of towing the heavily damaged ship, also warned about this. Before that, it was Djibouti that evacuated the 24 crew members – 11 Syrians, six Egyptians, three Indian nationals and four Filipinos. The crew left the vessel, after it was hit by two rockets on February 19 in the Strait of Bab el-Mandeb.
For several days after the impact, the Rubymar drifted out of control in the waters of the Gulf of Aden.

The ship was sailing from the United Arab Emirates to Varna
The Prime Minister of Yemen’s internationally recognized government, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, called the sinking of the cargo ship an “unprecedented environmental disaster,” and representatives of the Greenpeace organization warned that fertilizers entering the water could cause serious damage to marine ecosystems.
Despite lasting more than a month missile attacks by the US-led coalition against Houthi positions, the extremists are still capable of delivering serious blows and say they will not stop until Israel ends its military operation in Gaza.
Yesterday, the UKMTO portal, which supports the exchange of information between the British Navy and merchant ships in the region, reported another attack on a ship west of the Yemeni port city of Moha.
“The crew anchored the vessel and were evacuated by the military,” UKMTO said in a statement.
