Yemen: Safety Council votes on decision condemning Houthi assaults on ships

After receiving the help of 12 of the fifteen members of the Council, in trade for the abstention of Algeria and China

The UN Safety Council has unanimously adopted a brand new decision relating to ongoing assaults by Yemen’s Houthi group towards worldwide transport lanes within the Pink and Arabian Seas, the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

Through the night time, the Safety Council issued Decision no. (2739) after receiving the help of 12 of the 15 members of the Council, and Algeria, China and Russia abstained from the vote.

The decision, the draft of which was offered by the USA and Japan, renews the request to the Houthi group to instantly cease all assaults towards transport and business ships passing by means of​​​​ space and launch the ship “Galaxy Chief” and its crew, which the group has had since 19 November 2023.
