“Yellowjackets” Season 2 Finale Recap: Natalie’s Shocking Death & Cast Reactions, Interview with Christina Ricci

Spoiler Alert: The second season finale of “Yellowjackets” on Showtime has left fans reeling. In the 1996 timeline, Lottie hands over leadership of the wilderness to Natalie, who is confirmed as the Antler Queen. However, celebrations are short-lived as a fire breaks out that engulfs the home in flames. In the present timeline, Natalie warns the cast to leave before they perform an old ritual to see who the wilderness wants. Lisa, to whom Natalie has grown close throughout her time at Lottie’s retreat, approaches the group with a gun. With tensions high, Misty injects Natalie with phenobarbital, killing her. Lottie is subsequently taken to a mental hospital. The entire cast is affected by the twist, none more so than Juliette Lewis, whose character, Natalie, is written out of the series.

In a recent interview with Christina Ricci, who plays Misty on the show, she shares her reaction to Natalie’s death and her overall feelings about Season 2. Ricci did not learn of Natalie’s death until shortly before they shot the episode. She shares that the cast was upset and saddened by the news, as Lewis had been on the show since the beginning. As a result, it was tough to shoot emotionally charged scenes, and Ricci reveals that she and Lewis even cried when they ran into each other at an airport the next day.

When asked whether Misty had wanted to kill Natalie, Ricci insists that Misty’s actions were a complete mistake and an impulsive choice. Misty is portrayed as immature and selfish, trying to protect what she wants without regard for other people. On the topic of whether the group was actually going to kill Shauna, Ricci thinks that Misty probably would have taken part, but she was not at the front of the group. She was following Natalie to ensure that nothing bad happened to her.

Ricci also reveals that Misty’s obsession with Natalie stems from Natalie being the original Antler Queen. As a result, it is unlikely that anyone in Misty’s life knows what really happened to Crystal. Ricci further reveals that her working relationship with Elijah Wood, who plays Walter, was great. They were able to match each other because of the amazing writing and the chemistry that they had.

The interview ends with Ricci stating that she does read reviews of the episodes and that people seem to be most interested in the 1996 storyline. She has had no conversations about next season and has no idea what will happen. The show’s future without Lewis’ character, Natalie, remains uncertain.
