Yellow Ice Code Warning Issued for Four Regions by National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology

  • A yellow ice code has been announced for today in four regions of the country, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) announced on its website.

    The warning is valid for the districts of Dobrich, Razgrad, Silistra and Shumen. There will be icy conditions in the morning and until noon. A snow cover of up to 10 cm is expected to form in the four areas and there will be icing on the road surfaces.

    According to the weather forecast, the morning temperatures will be within wide limits, from 0°-1° in the northeastern regions to 8°-11° in Southeastern Bulgaria, where the wind will still be from the south, in Sofia – about 4°. The wind will be from the northwest, in the northeast areas will be from the north-northeast, moderate to strong, and will bring cold air with it. It will be cloudy with showers.

    As it cools down later in the day in many areas of Northern Bulgaria and the high valley fields of the West, the rain will change to snow. Before noon in the north-eastern regions of the country there will be icy conditions. By 2 p.m., temperatures will be from minus 2° in North-Eastern Bulgaria to 8°-9° in places in the South, 1°-2° in Sofia.
