The main preventive measure is the vaccine, which provides protection from 10 days after application and lasts a lifetime. Although anyone can contract yellow fever, older people, girls and boys, are at greater risk of developing a severe form.
The National Vaccination Schedule for those who live in a risk area includes a dose of the vaccine for boys and girls aged 18 months and a booster at age 11 for those who started the regimen between 18 and 24 months.
