On Tuesday 3, the Secretary of State for Health reported that the population of Sergipe aged nine months to 59 years can now apply for the Basic Health Units distributed throughout the state to get vaccinated against yellow fever. The implantation of immunization into the routine immunization schedule has occurred gradually across the country.
In Sergipe, according to the immunization manager of the State Department of Health (SES), Sândala Teles, so far there have been no cases of the disease. However, immunization is recommended as a form of prevention, as the disease can lead to death.
“It is important that the target audience is vaccinated against yellow fever. In Brazil, in some regions, vaccination had already been implemented for some time, but in the Northeast there was a lack of expansion in some states, as in the case of Sergipe. This has been due to location, as the incidence is higher in the northern region. The situation has changed, the northeast can indeed be the gateway for the transmitting mosquito. So the orientation is to immunize yourself ”, underlines the manager.
Sândala Teles adds that pregnant women cannot take the vaccine and that people over the age of 60 should be evaluated by a health professional. It is worth remembering that people who have made or will make international trips must be vaccinated.
