Yellow Fever Prevention and Vaccination Recommendations from the Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health provides recommendations to prevent yellow fever, especially for those already planning to travel during the summer season.

Yellow fever is a viral infection that is transmitted through the bite of some species of mosquitoes. It has no specific treatment, but there is a vaccine to prevent it. The dose is indicated for all people who live or travel to areas where there is evidence of persistent or periodic transmission of this virus.

In Argentina, it is required to have this immunization to travel to the provinces of Misiones and Corrientes.

The vaccine for travelers is recommended from 9 months of age up to and including 59 years of age, and must be applied at least 10 days before the trip so that people are properly protected.

If there is a contraindication to vaccination, the exemption certificate can be processed at the same vaccination centers, as well as requesting a duplicate if you have lost the card. It is a single dose, so once received, it should not be administered again.

It is important to remember that yellow fever can be fatal, and that, in children, older people and those who have risk factors, there is a greater possibility of presenting a serious condition.

Prevention

In addition to immunization, it is recommended to take preventive measures against mosquito bites:

Use repellents, following the recommendations on the packaging. Wear light clothing that covers your arms and legs, especially during outdoor activities. Protect cribs and baby strollers with tulle. If symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, joint pain, headache pain, pain behind the eyes, weakness or rash occur during the trip or upon return, an immediate medical consultation should be made and information about the countries or regions visited should be made.
